So... as far as water sources between Springer and Fontana - are there many piped springs or is is mostly "pump or dip"?

Is it primarily springs or creeks?

Just trying to figure out whether to Steripen or Hyperflow (assuming it works...)

All water sources are flowing VERY nicely from Springer to Fontana. I was very happy to see it after the drought we had this past year. Some of the sources marked unreliable in my handbook were even flowing.

I'd like to extend this question . What are the water sources like from Fontana to Clingmans dome? Trying to decide how many water container I will need for an eight day hike in June.

Just hiked from Fontana to Davenport Gap, finishing on Friday.

There was plenty of water throughout. Early in the week, some was in the form of snow.

Is it safe to assume that there is reliable water where water is indicated on the map?

At this point I would say that is quite safe to assume.

Of course you know that smart hiking allows for the unexpected.
