The two links below are about the extent of the discussion of hammocks in the June 2008 issue of Backpacker Magazine.

I thought surely the Hennessy Hammock website would surely be given.

But then again, Backpacker hasn't had much discussion of alcohol stoves either. I guess homemade gear doesn't bring in much ad money.

The Hennesey is not homemade.

People in general, like BPM readers, are probably more likely to get a hammock as a day hike or camp luxury item rather than use a shelter system w/ it. probably explains the dilemna.

I know what you mean. about a year ago they had a small section on alcohol , tab stoves.

Backpacker is going downhill. They have all gone Al Gore over there. Every issue now has reviews on "green" gear. Sorry, but I really don't care whether my gear is green. Enough with the global warming crap. Write stories about backpacking. (maybe its time for a letter to the editor)

The Lawson comes in at about twice the weight of an HH. Maybe okay for goofing around on a weekend outing (one or two nights) but I wouldn't consider it for longer trip.

As for the travel hammock....if it ain't got bug protection (netting) I ain't interested.

you have to pay them money to mention you... one year they left Western Mountaineering completely out of the gear issue... that told me everything i needed to know about their "recommendations".

How about the article on the Native Americans in Grand Canyon? That was an article that seemed to have a hidden agenda.
