Hmmm, it would appear that there are multiple threads that violate the "it aint AT related rule".

I can't imagine the man's condition or his rescue--bees, cactus, broken bones, heat? Murphy's Law.

Nah, he is from Tucson.

I am from Phoenix. The place where this occurred is in the middle of the city and great for day hikes and mountain biking.

yes, I would think that with 100+ degree temps, the best thing to bring on a hike would be

WATER

One of the GET permitting landowners in northern PA was mowing his farm lanes (one of which is the trail) when a bee stung him. He's allergic and blacked out. He came to at the bottom of a ravine with the tractor over him and burned from the spilled exhaust and coolant. After months in the Rochester NY burn unit he's up and walking but can't ever return to his job as a carpenter without his right hand.

So it seems bees are pretty dangerous compared to, say, bears...

Talk about hellish. If I just fell 200 feet landing on cactus with broken bones still getting swarmed by bees in extreme heat, I'd probably want somebody to shoot me at that point. What's next ... maybe a cougar getting attracted to the smell of blood? I would be hard pressed to want to limp away from something this awful.

It's like some serious bad karma caught up to the guy - all at the same time, like some effed up mouse trap game - one event triggers another, then another ... I haven't heard of anyone getting their ass kicked by mother nature in such a swift and severe fashion as this poor bastard - this one is for the books.

...and then an anvil landed on top of him. Dumbass hiker didn't have a cell phone- he was asking for it.

Compare the deep heartfelt display of community compassion in this thread to the responses when a certain M. called for rescue for a sprained ankle. :-?
