Are there any people starting a NOBO thru-hike from Springer Mtn.?

As in any hikers generally out at this time, having started late.

Don't know about this year ...but in 2003 there were quite a few hikers who started in May and PASSED me cuz I was hiking rather slowly.

Maybe but more than likely they will have to leap ahead to make it to Baxter before the snow flies (or go real fast). Many this time of year acutally start from Harpers Ferry and go north then return and go south. At least some we had met last year were doing that. Or some also start from Damascus.

I would imagine you would have to be really fast and dedicated especially if you didn't want to flip.

I myself am starting in Catawba on June 7ish and will return to Catawba
....god willing....

I met 7 people on Monday between Newfound Gap and Charlie's Bunion who were thru hiking.. I kinda thought they were late but if there's still people starting I guess they know what they're doing.. a June start would allow for a 4+ month hike and a lighter summer pack.:-?

I met two guys NOBO this past Saturday. Didn't catch their names but IMO they were going pretty slow. We stopped to give the kids a break at Stover Creek Shelter as they were leaving it. When we got to Hawk Mtn. Shelter, they were settling down for the night.

In '06 the last NOBO I encountered who actually made it to Katahdin started in early July, and finished Oct. 15th. No Pain.
