Heres a pretty nice little book, Its like a bunch of guide books(not the regular guide books with maps etc) It has sections on the history of the trail, geology, wildlife that can be found along the trail, plants and another section on suggested hikes. It has some photos and sketches of the diferent animals and plants and charts that give the best times to find them.also charts for when the diferent types of flowers bloom.A very good reference book/feild guide! It was written by Leonard M Adkins who has walked the entire trail 4 times and at the time the book was released had less than 700 miles to go for his 5th.And he has a dog named Macafee of Knob, lol. He also has a couple more books that I havnt read yet but look interesting,
Walking the Blue Ridge:A guide to the trails of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

50 Hikes In Northern Virginia:Walks ,hikes, and Backpacks from the Allegheny Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay.

If anybody is interested the books were published by
Menasha Ridge Press: http://www.menasharidge.com
