I am wanting to start hiking and would like to meet and maybe hook up with folks with some experience. I am in the eastern panhandle of WV in Hampshire County.

My wife is from the other side of Cumberland (Beans Cove, Pa.) so we are around sometimes. If you're looking for beginning backpacking treks one handy fellow to get to know would be "MRHyker" at the web site midatlantichikes.com - he leads trips for folks from closer to the Beltway but usually passes you on the way to the trails.

Are you a member of the PATC (http://potomacappalachian.org/index.php)? The West Chapter (http://potomacappalachian.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=64&Itemid=78) might have some activities convenient to you. I'm a member of the PATC's Stonewall Brigade (http://potomacappalachian.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=84&Itemid=90) which maintains trails along Great North Mountain on the VA/WV border in GWNF. Come out and join us.

Thanks. I will definitely check both of those out.
