who made your pack? can't you send it in to get the strap fixed? i'd look into that 1st as it'll be your cheapest option by far.

i own a gregory z55 and love it btw.

i bet by the time i read this tomorrow night there will be a lot of posts for granite gear and golite packs

Taking my cue from hikingPA -

VAPOR TRAIL

I prefer a pack with a "lid" for quick access items. There are many . . . the Vapor Trail is not one of them! The Granite Gear Nimbus is basically a Vapor Trail with a lid, and nearly identical in features, weight, etc. with the Gregory Z55, only it costs $50 more (based on REI prices today).

A feature I can't speak to not having hauled a load for days in these packs is "how do they fit - ride? How comfortable, under load, are they?" The winner of that would perhaps justify a higher price tag! ;)

couldn't hurt to send it in. TNF is great w/ returns. at the very least you can get it back in good shape and sell it if you like your new pack. don't just throw it away

My back just busted on me too, but it was a cheap ATI pack off ebay from months ago ... anyway .. i was looking for along time .. bought a few items and figured out what else would be in the pack and wanted the oddysey too ... but for $199 vs jansport's big bear 82 and an ounce lighter .. for $99 ... 3 lbs 9 ounces ... i liked it when i was messing with it and trying it on at the store and i'm 6'4 ... nothing wrong with the golite tho ... just saying .. my eureka apollo 2 "zeus" fits nicely horizontal and 5k cu is plenty, plus the front pocket is large enough to carry my food sack or clothing .. and the large pocket up top could as well ... its beasty.

i like my northface crestone 60, would like the 75 but 60 is just about right for carrying essentails and keeping clutter and weight down

I'm on my second Gregory pack, the Whitney, but at over 6 lbs, it's a bit dated in that regard, but I'll carry it 'til it wears out.
