Hey all..just a reminder, it is National Trails Day this Saturday. If you have the time, taking part in a trail project would be great thing
for any lover of the outdoors to do. If you do not live near a long distance hiking trail, I am sure there is an open space area, a city park,
local nature preserve, etc. that would love a hand.

The American Hiking Society has a great website that list some events in various states:
http://www.americanhiking.org/NTD.aspx

Other places for finding an event:
http://www.rei.com/trailsday
http://snipurl.com/2c3wa

All events aren't listed, but the links do give a good starting place. As mentioned, many local orgs have events that may not even be on the first lists (I'm doing a Colorado Trail project that is not listed, for example).

So here's a chance to enjoy a pretty area, do something rewarding and get good hiking karma by leaving a trace. :)

In North Carolina, the Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail have opportunities for service across the state.

SATC's opening a relo that's taken 2.5 years to do: http://www.satc-hike.org/NTD_2008.pdf

CVATC is always at Boiling Springs' Foundry Day, their civic festival always coincides with NTD. In past years there were such displays at the ATC Mid-Atlantic Regional Office as a rigging tug-of-war with 1 guy vs. 8 and the 1 wins. :)

But I'll be at one of those REI events, on the GET: http://get.chattablogs.com/

I maintain a section of local trail and monitor the corridor boundaries of a section of the A.T. all year long. I think I'll take the weekend off :D

We thank you!

I try to get in a week's worth (total) of trail work (or habitat restoration) a year. Not nearly as much as you. :)

So yeah, take the weekend off! :D
