I've been looking at packs for a while. I was wondering if this is a good one to consider for a thru-hike pack. I have done quite of backpacking before, but Im just getting started into the field of UL. Does anyone here use this pack, and would it be suitable for the PCT?

I used the Z-55 all last summer and fall. I would not call it ultra light but it is a very comfortable pack especially for warmer weather. There are a lot of adjustments that can be made to carry different size loads. I really like the large hydration bladder pocket. I also found that the top lid can be removed and used as a waist or fanny pack.

I can't speak about a thru hike since my longest hike has been 15 days.

This year I'm trying a Golite Pinnacle. It is lighter but not as many pockets or options.

I have a Z55 that I love. It carries great, and is still pretty light. But, I also just got a GoLite Pinnacle that I am planning on using for my '09 thru.

I would try it on. It is a great pack in my opinion, great options, and it swallows all the gear you could put in it, but I had to go with the Osprey 50 ultimately because the Z55 has a lumbar pad that is pretty prominent and ultimately it just kind of pressed on my lower back too much. Felt like all the pack's weight was there.

I use a Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian and love it! It is a bit bigger and lighter.

Switched from an Osprey Aether 75 to the Z55 and couldn't be happier.
