Is the bridge still out? How much of a detour is it to use the VA 635 bridge? Can you ford the creek?

You can ford the creek.

yes at this time you can ford the creek easily; however, right after a heavy rain it would be very difficult....the detour and trail are almost the same length....simple thing to do is look at the creek at the start of the north bound detour if it is fordable there then you be OK....I live on the detour right next to the creek

I forded it in early April 2005 (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=92493) when the water was swift and frigid so I'm sure fording would be easy now.

I forded the creek in late May 2005, which was actually kind of fun as I had never forded something this deep before. I had read a few journal entries in the nearby shelter of "water up to my chest" earlier in May, and a few thru-hikers that passed me had water stains up to mid-thigh, but the path I took didn't even reach my knees. I viewed it as training for some of the Maine fords when I get up there in a few years.

I think some friends of mine spent half a day building a rock and log bridge there about two weeks ago.
