I discovered this site from the links section of "Hiking the Trail" on the Appalachian Trail Conservancy website and thought it quite good. I was wondering if others had read these and what their opinions were.

My opinion is that it is quite good and worth checking out.

Great info from great folks who not only hike the trails but also work on them (which is how I met them). But I've never had an opportunity to test their viewpoints yet on my own hike...

Requited reading, IMO, for any of the long trails.

Gear, where to resupply, etc. is easy.

It is the head stuff that makes or breaks a thru-hike.

I agree, but can that be learned from books and articles? :-? I dunno.

Read the articles. It makes you think. It doesn't teach anything but what you teach yourself.

Reading them keeps the dream alive while you are waiting to go to the trail. (smile)

I read them one evening while at Standing Bear Farm. Thought it was one of the best things I'd read about the trail. It's one of those pieces that will be just as relevant 25 years from now as it was when it was written. A must read for all hikers, past, present and future....imo.
