Due to the warmth of a tent or the cold of a hammock, Does anyone carry a tent at first and switch to a hammock when it gets warmer?

I do believe there are a couple of folks that have done that who are members of this board. Hammock Hanger?

That is a good idea. Start with a simple tarp and ground cloth (bugs won't be an issue when it is cold) and then switch to a hammock once it warms up (lows 40F+). Maybe pickup the hammock when you pick up your summer bag/gear.

What about setting up the hammock on the ground, using your hiking poles for tent poles and then going "airborne" once the nighttime air temperatures climb a little higher?

You can correct this by using a pad in the hammock, or, if you're fairly industrious, by making your very own down underquilt. It would weigh about 10-12oz and has kept many warm into the 20s.
