Who from WhiteBlaze has received a TEHCC Hiker-Trail Volunteer patch?

We just passed out our 2000th Hiker-Trail Volunteer patch during Week Six of the Konnarock Trail Crew. We dug new trail on Little Hump Mtn in TN/NC. Daniel, Imfine and Blue delayed their long distance hikes to help out. Blue (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=25563&c=member&imageuser=8692) was the recipient of patch #2000 (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=25564&catid=member&imageuser=8692).

The patch was designed by The Artist and lettered by Rosey. It was designed in 1999 and depicts a crossed crosscut saw and mattock.

Thank-you to the 2000 hikers who have stopped for a few hours for trail maintenance on TEHCC's section. Thanks also to the countless others who take time out to maintain the Appalachian Trail. The AT wouldn't exist as it does without the VOLUNTEER effort.

For more information about VOLUNTEERING on the AT contact your local Trail Maintaining Club or visit ATC's webpage (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/site/c.jkLXJ8MQKtH/b.715469/). There are plenty of opportunities.

See you on the trail,

PS. I've uploaded some Week Six Konnarock photos. Sorry if I mislabeled any of them.

You're Welcome, StarLyte.

Konnarock (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/site/c.jkLXJ8MQKtH/b.1172265/) did a great job. There is still some to complete before opening the section. They get a 2 week break and then back for more. They will also work on Unaka Mountain for a week and hopefully open that section.

I've got a 50 hour patch from TEHCC but not the one you're talking about. Do you have to be hiking at the time to get that one or on a Konnarock crew or am I, as usual, confused?

The sad thing is the number of calls the ATC gets asking which sections need "more trail magic," compared with the calls asking for opportunities to maintain trails.

Too many people like to "feel good" handing out goodies to vacationers, compared to doing the hard, sweaty, real work of keeping the trail repaired and maintained.

I happen to know of a "volunteer" that went out to work on a project at Over Mountain shelter... digging the new privy there. He was refused a patch on some pretty non politically correct grounds...

.............just cause Fabian has 4 legs doesn't make him less of a real hiker!

Yes, no, maybe...Typically, 'Kincora' brings hikers out from the hostel on our Tuesday outings. That is not always the case, however. Sometimes hikers happen to wander by while we are working and join in. Daniel and Blue encountered the Konnarock Crew at The Barn and VOLUNTEERED. Imfine came with 'Kincora'. But, yes, this patch is typically given to hikers taking time out of their hikes. The rest of the Konnarock Crew received the same patch that you have.

:(Sorry Miss J - maybe it was determined that Fabian didn't dig hard enough or long enough...or maybe when the patches were distributed he was chasing a squirrel and was not present:rolleyes:...or maybe as Red Hat observed, he would have no place to display a patch:eek::D:p...or maybe...
