If you could only bring one thing besides the necessities (food, tent, sleeping bad, etc) what would you take backpacking?

I take my crazy creek chair. I know it weighs a ton, but I *heart* it!

I take my ultra light weight hammock, it weighs 9 oz. and I can use it as a lounge chair, its awesome. I don't have to be all picky about getting the hang just right because I won't be sleeping in it, just using it as a chair.

My wife.

Can't take my wife, she's to used to the comforts of a civilized life. She likes wilderness during the day, but when its time to sleep she needs to be in a bed inside a house. Instead my hiking buddy is my dog. Doesn't complain, is happy all the time, and enjoys hiking as much as I do.:banana

Bible. Not so much for the religious content, but it has so much. Poetry, history, philosophy, war stories, love stories, more. So it has something for every mood, and compact.

Just spent a week in Shenandoah Park, and I thought I had everything I needed.

The one thing missing that would have been great to have around?

Probably my good friend Jester, who's out on the PCT somewhere.

Great company isn't always easy to find.
