After a two year absence from the AT, Tripper and I finally got to go near the AT again this past week. We made reservations at the Len Foote Hike Inn to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. The weather was just right and the food at the Inn delicious. We had a great time.

We met Richard Judy who thru hiked in 1973, Maine to Georgia and he shared a little about his hike and those of his son, Optimus Prime (2002?) and daughter, Steady (2004?). His story was very interesting and he seems like a very nice person.

If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend a visit to the Len Foote Hike Inn. It's an easy to moderate hike of 5 miles through the beautiful North Georgia woods. And you can't beat the food once you get there.

Glad you had fun!! Happy Anniversary!!!

My trail section (overseer for maintenance) is on the Hike Inn trail. Love that place. Would highly recommend it too.

If anybody is interested, the Hike Inn always would like to have volunteers. You have to become a friend of the hike inn to volunteer. You can get a free stay in exchange for some work. Info on it is at http://hike-inn.com/volunteers.asp or under the hike inn main webpage at http://hike-inn.com/default.asp .

Congrats Wayne, glad to hear that you and Tripper had a great time. I really enjoyed my one time there also.

Did you get enough to eat? We arrived late and missed the new arrival do's and don't speech. So while at the dinner table after about 30 minutes, I was not amused when they came around and started taking our plates.

But yes, it was an awesome place.

I've decided to stay here a few nights for vacation.
It will be the first time I have ever stayed any place like this. Can anyone please
tell me what to expect? Any tips would be great! Thanks!

Two different places. The Hike Inn is a hostel north of Dahlonega run by Josh and Leigh Saint. The Len Foote Hike Inn is on a trail leaving from Amicalola State Park.

You'll like the Hike Inn. Real clean, and a good breakfast, too.

Papa John: the one I'm going to is in Amicalola State Park.

Hoop: The food part concerns me a bit as I am a vegetarian. I guess if I have too I can just take a box or two of pop tarts! LOL

Sorry, I had the Hiker Hostel on my mind! That is a great place to stay as well!

SE,

I was referring to the hostel near Dahlonega. If you call the Len Foote Hike Inn they might accomodate you with the eats. They were pretty cool when I was there a couple of years ago.
