I rolled into Glencliff today after completing 20 miles, entering the Whites tomorrow.

I'm feeling real good, I'm looking forward to the Whites.

Hey Kirby - I friend of mine from Riverton, IL Dave Adams (last trail name I know of is GDEUP) is back home resting his knee right now. Says he met you (in NJ I think) and was impressed, "That kid is going somewhere". And I don't think he just meant Katahdin.

I met him at the Mohican Outdoor Center and spent the night with him there, I enjoyed his company, full of spirits. Hope his knee recovers well.

Tell him I said thanks for the kind words.

OB: the report from June 30 was that Kirby was probably going over Franconia. So I'd guess this weekend he's finishing up the Whites, or just crossed into Maine (unless he took a long break in Gorham.) Which must be a good feeling, given that's his home state.

I'm sure he has likely lost weight. Paul Bunyan lost 50 LB but he did grow

Based on that pic at Springer, I don't know how he could lose much. I would be more interested in how much he had to eat just to maintain energy.

He was in Gorham last Thursday, no zero there. I expect he crossed into Maine on Sat and potentially Andover today. I'm predicting a 7/26 finish. Slight chance we may cross paths in the Bigs next M/T while I'm there for RR training and poo mixing.

Hey everyone, I rolled into Rangeley today VIA Maine route 4. I'm going to hang out here for the day and hike a whole two miles to the first shelter.

I'm starting to think about life after the trail. I'm no longer going to do the Long Trail, Vermont was a horrible state and I hope it burns to the ground. Instead, Cookie and I are going to hang out in Acadia National Park for 2-3 days, then I shall return home.

My summit window right now is July 25th to the 29th. My journal is way behind, I will completely update it when I get home. What I will do from now until the end is add the most recent entry I have so that people know where I am.

Who ever designed the trail up Mahoosuc Arm and the trail from Baldpate to the first summit needs to under go a physc evaluation.

Onward and upward. Katahdin beckons me.

Ha ha! That section of Vermont was my least favorite part of the AT. At least after Sherbourne Pass, Inn at Long Trail.
It was like walking into waves, and hitting them head on.

And all that wet and mud.
I believe I grew mushrooms between my toes.

That said, give me a couple weeks paid vacation and a car trip up there, and I'd go back in a heartbeat...

You are VERY mature for your years,I am impressed. You should be proud of your progress on the trail and in real life. If I did not know your your age I would think you were many years older, and I mean many. I know folks twice your age that are not as astute as you are. You give inspiration. Take care.

Kirby, don't give up on Vemont. I don't know what you found so distasteful - hot weather, black flies & mosquitos, muck, rain? - but didn't you enjoy Stratton Pond, White Rocks, Killington, the view from Glastonbury fire tower? As Wolf said, the trail is even better north of Rt. 4, if not more difficult. There's nothing like ascending Camels Hump and looking out over Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks.

Congratulations, Kirby!

You set a goal, developed a plan, and followed it "thru" (pardon the pun). That approach in life will lead you to many successes. All the best to you, young man!

Time to eat.

Had a whoopie pie at the Friar's bakery in Bangor the other day.

I can see why they won the contest. You will need several.

Loaf of bread wouldn't hurt you either.

You had a nice day to summit, super.

I had a one hour window when the skies were clear on top, as I began my descent the tableland and the summit became enshrouded in a cloud, where it would remain for the rest of the day.

Good job Kirby! I was a little worried when you hadn't updated your trail journal. Way to finish well.

Looks as though you got lucky with conditions at the summit. :)

I guess it helped that it was July; I got lucky when it was early October. :-?
