I'll be heading out for a few days on the AT (moving north to south to Damascus) with a couple buddies in August. I have been buying bits and pieces of gear here and there, taking hte advice of alot of people and not trying to break the bank. The items I have so far I was hoping to get some feedback from some experienced folks and see where I stand. Alot of the clothing items I already have, I've been in the Army for 17 years so I have aquired a ton of outdoor gear.

Pack: North Face Terra 60
Tent: Mountain Hardware 1 person Wing
Stove: MSR Whisperlite
Cookset: GSI soloist
Sleeping Bag: Jungle Bag rated@30 degrees

These were the things I thought were pretty important, the samller things I have also lights, first aid kit and such. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

What's the total weight of the tent, pack, sleeping bag and sleeping pad? If it's over nine pounds or so, some weight-reduction might be in order.

The MSR Whisperlite was standard equipment for thru-hikers... 15 years ago. There's nothing wrong with it, but be aware that there are lighter options, either gas canister stoves or alcohol stoves.
