I don't know this area of Maine very well, and I'm trying to get to a T-Mobile store so I can fix my phone. It won't hold a charge so I can't make/receive any phone calls at this time. If anyone has any ideas, drop me a PM/post here.

Thanks.
Kirby

Kirby,

I checked the T-Mobile site for nearby retail locations. There isn't a store within 50 miles of Rangeley.

Here are the closest (http://locator.t-mobile.com/LocatorResults.aspx?&LOC=44.9666050422923%3a-70.6467093025712&CT=44.9666050422923%3a-70.6467093025712%3a10.3313316895994%3a7.7484987671 9956&DSN=MapPoint.NA&GAD3=Rangeley%2c+Franklin%2c+Maine&IC=44.9666050422923%3a-70.6467093025712%3ax+8%2c8%3aRangeley%2c+Franklin% 2c+Maine&GAD4=USA&GCITY=rangeley&GSTATE=ME&SSK=0&searchType=storeLocations&SLU=0&DBR=100) retail locations to Rangeley, Maine.

If your father wants you to keep in touch, regularly, he may have to meet you in Rangeley, with a new phone.

Sounds like it could be a bad battery? Can you get a new battery from elsewhere than T-Mobile? Are cell batteries all proprietary?

(I've never had to replace a cell phone battery before.)

That's a good suggestion, Alligator, however there is no cell phone store in Rangeley.

The closest are in Farmington, where there is a US Cellular and a Unicel dealer.

Kirby, it's looking like you're going to have to sweet-talk dad into making a day trip to Rangeley. Tell him that you are really hungry, and that you've lost weight. Maybe he'll hook you up with some treats.

I was thinking Radio Shack maybe but that's listed in Farmington too.

Kirby,

You should probably have T-Mobile send you a new battery to your next stop.

Use a phone card to check your msgs and for the time being.

Not sure how crucial the phone thing is, but I wouldn't let it get in the way of you finishing the AT.

Why not order it online, have it sent to the PO at Rangeley? You'll need to be in town when you first get it in any case -- in order to charge the battery...

I just read in another thread (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?p=662040#post662040)that Kirby spent the day in Rangeley and will hike-out later today.

Given this new information, I suppose my suggestions, and yours, may not work for him. Unless I misunderstood his post, he's already beyond Rangeley. (I wasn't clear on his comment about RT 4)

Well, he's running out of potential delivery-venues, then. ;) If he's on the trail between Rangeley and Stratton, then the remaining options are: Caratunk, Monson... and outta here. Or maybe he's just looking for an excuse to hang back for a few days. :D
