Had a visit this past weekend from some 2003 thru-hikers (Tom for Short and Seneca Lou) and decided to drive up into the mountains. After my experience over the 4th of July I was a tad leary to put myself back in that situation (elevations over 10,000 feet). But good news ...we made the trip up to around 11,000 feet and I felt NO ill-effects at all.
The big surprise (and a relatively rare sighting in the Medicine Bow Range) was to see 2 bull moose along the side of the road on Rt 130. What got my attention even more than the sighting was that these 2 bull moose were grazing about 10 feet from each other and seemed to be tolerating it. My experience is that generally you don't see 2 grown bull moose in close proximity to each other without them showing some agression.
Oh well ...it was a great sighting and a great weekend. When you live way the heck out here in Wyoming having guests is a special ocassion, especially when they are fellow 2003'ers. But hey - - our door is always open.
Hope everyone else had a great weekend.
