I just got my Byer Mosquito in the mail & hung it in the backyard and decided to test it out for the weekend. The Second night was as bad as the first. Rugby my 70 lbs. Lab curled up underneath my hammock and every five minutes would 'hear' something and look up! Bopping me on my A'ss. After two hours of this I went back to bed. It just goes to show you can't be prepared for everything. It's just not for everybody, I let you folks know when I really get my tarp wet...

Man, you look really crunched up in that thing. How long is the bed of the hammock?

Hang your hammock higher than Rugby's head can reach when he sits up. I had a similar problem 20 years ago with my Bandit.

Maybe it's just the camera angle, but Bulldawg's right - you do kinda look crunched up just a bit.

I knew I would get a few laugh's with this & after my wife stopped laughing that was the first thing she said (hang it higher) -- It's that low for a reason - in case the rope broke (initial test)

LOL - I can relate - the first time I slept in one, I TIED MYSELF IN so that I wouldn't fall out (now, how dumb is that???)!

Oop, I can so relate after seeing you picture. AM, The Byer Moskito is great for $49 or the money... Way too cool. Only possible disaster is falling out! The clear challenge is finding the best tarp, I own a Noah Tarp, now I wish it was green for stealth camping Oh well.

Can someone give me a quick shortcut on how to tie the Hammock Knot?

Woo - if you're asking about the Hennessey knot, Shane has explanation / a vid on his website:

The only time I hang that low is if it's cold, and I'm trying to get low out of the wind, or hang in my Speer Winter Tarp, with it staked to ground level.....otherwise, I try to hang so that the hammock is "butt" height, and is a good seat.....

Well I tried it with different amounts of tension as you increase the tension the hammock flattens out higher and gets harder to get into. I just took it down yesterday after a few nights in storms; I stayed dry. Now comes the next issue.

Byer's Mosquito weighs in at 1lb without the additional rope. The Noah 12 is 2lbs. and honestly too big (great for two hammocks side by side) , 3 pounds is over my limit so I am going to swap the Noah for a green/camo smaller one. Yet the camo tarps are sold out.

Go over to Hammock Forums and you will find some great sites (JustJeff's To The Woods, etc.) for different knots and hanging suggestions.

Also, there is a current thread on a camo tarp - good price.

By the way - like that red hammock. I'm definately not into the stealth thing!:)

The body of the Bayer is short, and the materials are VERY VERY stretchy. It is a OK hammock to try out & see if hanging is ok for you, but for more than one or 2 nights, (or even 1 or 2 hours ) its a bit, , , , , iffy.

Hints, re the Bayer:

Hang MUCH higher than you think you need to.
Add a ridge line, & put in less sag than you think you need.
The less stretch in your hanging ropes/straps the better.
If you get up during sleep time, re-adjust (tighten) your hanging straps/ropes.
Hang MUCH higher than you think you need to.

My Bayer made nice (not water proof) stuff sacks.

Yea I would agree with that clearly you get what you pay for... I had a real hard time sleeping in it, I know it's me - not the hammock
