Are hammock hangers welcome at AMC Tent Sites or do I need to go "off-trail" to hang?

go off trail. i don't consider it "camping" but...
and how would they charge for the use of 2 trees? it's a national forest. i assume you pay taxes. them trees are yours too

Go off trail. Makes no sense to pay if you aren't using the tent pads, etc.

I was able to hang at Liberty Springs Campsite using two trees on the corner of a pad.

Just bear in mind that the "woods" in the Whites, just below the tree line, may be full of very dense undergrowth. They can be damn nigh impassible in places.

Nice pic, the caretaker didn't have any issues I presume?

Not a word. I was the only one there at first and had my pick of platforms. Not all of them had trees that were easy to tie off to and still allow you to be on the platform. The one I tied up on allowed for me to get into my hammock on one side only, the other side was a death sentence.

Hard to believe what a mere $89 will get you these days.

$89? *** are you talking about? AMC Tent Sites are a mere $8/night. We are talking TENT SITES here not huts/lodges.

The tentsites aren't anywhere near that expensive. It's the huts with meals that run up into that range. The campsites are somewhere in the $10 range, give or take a couple.
