I'll be doing this short section in a week or so, and would like to know the water situation. It's been pretty darn dry here in central VA. Thanks.

For the last week or so, SW Virginia has been getting rained upon hard.

springs are drying up. plan accordingly

Assuming you are going NOBO.
The spring at Lost Mountain is running slow (creeks about 2 miles south of this shelter are running well)
The spring on Whitetop is running like a fire hose.
The spring at Deep Gap (North of Elk Garden) was running slow, but very usable.

Just did this section last weekend, and everything was flowing well. Probably due to the front that went through last Wednesday/Thursday. From the look of things (washed out areas on the trail) it must of dumped a lot of rain in that area.
Just came through that area this past weekend, seemed to be good water the entire way. Creeks and Springs are running pretty well due to the rain fal the past week or so.
