Just received this bag today. Laid it out next to my MH Phantom 45, which is 800 down-filled.

This one's synthetic, reasonably light (31 oz.) Rated for 32 degrees. But the overall loft barely matches the Phantom 45.

Not sure what to think... it would be nice to hear some first-hand reports.

I don't have any experience with that bag, but I think that answers your question.

I hear you. Being mostly rational in nature I'm forced to conclude that the 32 degree rating is... ambitious, at best. :( Still would like to hear first-hand reports.

I would also enjoy info on that brand. The half zipper would be a pain for me.

But temp wise...

The brand is fine, IMO. I'm pleased with the Phantom 45, it served me well last summer. But I was going out on a limb buying a synthetic-fill bag this time.

I'm trying to decide if I should return it... or use it on next week's hike in CA. The devil I know, or the new one with the warmer rating that I don't quite believe? :-?

This all started when A-Train say "No Way!" to my query about using a 45 degree bag on the JMT... But it is August, is it not?

terp i'm sure you have some sort of insulating jacket. why not just take your phantom and the jacket and return the bag?

I agree with hikingPA, especially if the bag is pricey

Review from Outside magazine:

They seem to indicate the bag was a bit optimistic on temp. rating.

Jump in one in a warm room on your sleeping pad. Time how long it takes to "pop" that first bead of sweat on the ole forehead. Cool down, repeat for the other bag. If there's a big difference in time then there's a big difference in ratings.

I'm returning it. Bought the bag I wanted in Mammoth Lakes -- the MH Phantom 32. Gave it to my nephew to use for the duration, since he showed up with a POS bag he got from some friend.
