I'm starting a SOBO section hike on Monday from Windsor Furnace, just north of Port Clinton, PA, and plan to backpack as far as Harper's Ferry or Front Royal (if I'm still having fun!). Thanks to everyone for suggestions about gear and transportation and information about water sources.

So as a section hiker when you reach Pine Grove Furnace, you're entitled to the one pint challenge.

Enjoy. That's basically the section I did in '06. A pleasant walk, except for the sections that were 5-6' underwater! :D

The weather reports look good for early August. It can be hotter than's expected, but the water sources might be flowing better.
Keep your ears open for information about water sources up ahead! You may encounter the hiker(s) who departed from Penn Mar Park today and posted yesterday. Maybe you can help out one another by exchanging information.
