A post in another thread made me think about the gadgets that some of us carry with us on the trail. So now I'm curious, what have you carried on the trail?

The little LED light I use has an IC controller. Other than a digital camera that's about it for me.

I love to fall asleep listening to music on an mp3 player!

"iPod or other MP3 player"?
My AM/FM Cassette Sony Walkman had about 1700 miles on it. I think it weighed 2 lbs, not counting the spare batteries, saran wrap, duct tape, plug in speakers, and extra cassettes.
Now it's a 1.5 oz Zen mp3/FM.

Digital camera is probably my most "gadgety" item.

I did use a pocket mail in 2006 to write newspaper articles as well. Have not used it since.

Geez Sly..take a chill pill. I never vote in these polls as they rarely stay on course. In fact, I did not know this was a poll until you used the angry little emoticon. :)

Relax my friend.

Palm Pilot, it does so many things, including play music. But I hate walking with headphones on (like my Son does) you miss so much.

Just a cell phone that I generally keep off.

Windows Mobile Cellphone - makes calls, gets weather reports and weather radar, gets text messages my wife sends me when I'm hiking, is a 2 mpix camera, is a Bible and eBook reader, and weighs 7 oz. That's about as multipurpose a 7 ounces I know of. I could also play games and surf the net, but there are better things than that to do on the trail. ;)

The most technology I carry is a magnetic compass, headlamp, and wristwatch.

I hike with my iPhone. It does everything but filter water and build fires. One day I hope to use it on the AT. Peace y'all.

Ditch the wristwatch.:DYou don't hear much about it but I would imagine wristwatch sales are really hurting with all the cellphone usage today. I've quit wearing one, preferring to check my phone for the time.

Depends.

Many people in this town wear watches that give the time, function as an altimeter, give the resting heart rate (and god knows what else).

Very popular with people who are gear wonks AND athletic. (Many of those in Boulder).

I suspect many business type people wear a watch as a fashion accessory, too.

As for me, I don't take a cell phone on the trail and will sometimes use my analog watch for dead reckoning when navigating.
