The Jansport Big Bear packs seem too good to be true. Campmor is selling a version of the 63 at 3850 ci and 3 lbs 4 oz for only $69 (http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___67004 (http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___67004)). Backpacker (I know, but...) reviewed it positively ( http://www.backpacker.com/march_08_gear_backpacks_review_weekend_packs/gear/12239?page=1).
Since I can't afford the Nimbus Meridian I want yet, I'm wondering if the Big Bear 63 is a good alternative to my large ALICE pack, which holds 3800 ci. Does anybody have any experience with Big Bear packs?

I have a big bear 5000 and have nothing bad to say about it. I did some research and for the price they cannot be beaten. They handle heavy loads comfortably, cheap, decent weight (for size & price), etc. I would recommend it. I didnt know they sold a smaller version, I might look into them. The 5000 is extremely big for the gear I have now. When I first bought it though I could barely get my gear to fit lol.

How does it fit, ride, and feel under load? That is key! I still have my retired Jansport D3 external frame. I don't know much about the company's current level of quality. But if it satisfies my first question, at that price, it should be a good deal.

That torso seems short... maybe try one on, before ordering.

you can try them on at most dicks or some place like that. I have only owned my Jansport so I cannot comment on comfort compared to others. I have carried mid 40's with mine and it was not that comfortable. But at 30lbs, it rides pretty well IMO. I cant comment now bc I'm down to low 20's so I could be using a garbage bag and it would prob be halfway comfortable.

I own a big bear 82, sitting right next to me ... just got home from another weekend out ... I load it up between 35-42 lbs at times and it does well ... 3 lbs 9 ounces for 5000ci since alot of my stuff is light but bulky, and those weights are when i do sections were i need to carry alot of water due to shakey springs in PA ... This weekend i was at 25-30 lbs cause water was everywhere ... =]

I have nothing bad to say about the pack ... the seams/stitching has held up well all summer, i've had this pack for about 4-5 months ... i love it ...
