It sounds lucky that he was found when he was... any later would have been too late. Glad he survived.

Actually he was lucky the maggots set in.

They eat all the dead skin and infection causing areas. Septus could have killed him in a week.

Sure, it may have sucked and been gross but they probably had a lot to do with him staying alive.

I was at a bar here in Phuket, Thailand about 2 months ago and it was dark.
A girl offered me a bowl of what i thought was peanuts.
I tried one and it was ok. She said: "you can't just eat one"
So i grabbed a handful.
They were pretty good but i couldn't pinpoint the taste.

I got out my flashlight (trusty Photon II) and sure enough: it was maggots.

My buddy got a pretty good kick out of it but the girl at the bar just kept eating the whole bowl.
Thai people often eat bugs. No big deal.

Sorry for this thread drift. (mods delete it if you think fit)
But my buddy just sent me this:

In 2001, a Pennsylvania man was curious to find out what it would feel like to be hit by a bullet, so he shot himself in the shoulder with a gun! An ambulanced raced to his house, for what was actually the second time, to treat his new gunshot wound. Explaining why he had shot himself on two separate occasions, the man said, “I wanted to see if it hurt as much as it did the first time."

Yes, you just toss them into your survival stew, boiling takes care of it.
