I've always said that "Labor Day should be the ONE day of the year that we all work." :D

We had classes at Clemson, but all three of mine today were canceled for different reasons so I got the day off anyway.

I spent part of the day checking out three eagle chicks that hatched late last winter or early spring on an island that borders the salt marsh that borders my home.

I hitched up my electric outboard to my 20-foot canoe and set off, despite a brisk wind that raised quite a choppy bay, generating a bit of spray coming over the bow.

My wife and daughter quickly sighted the nest and an adult eagle perched in a nearby tree. But I didn't. So I circled around two or three times, irritating the younguns. They circled overhead, screeching their protest over the intrusion.

Not really work. Just a lot of fun.

Are you referring to young women from Philadelphia?

I spent some good ole quality family time in mountains of Georgia.

One the way, it was completed fogged in from Asheville to Hayesville NC. Got to Winding Stair Gap, and couldn't see 5 feet in front of me.

Got to Neels Gap which was crowded with Labor Day hikers. Hiked up Blood Mtn which was in the 80-90s.

Also made stops at Brasstown Bald.

Then on the way back, I stopped at Deep Gap and climbed Standing Indian. A bit hazy and overcast but still a good day.
