Has anyone explored the practicality of using a modified cargo net to hold a quilt in place under the hammock? It would be quite low-weight and would allow quilts of differing thicknesses (or combinations of quilts) to be used depending on weather conditions.

It might just squish the insulation.

The practical problems for all underquilts is
1) to get the insulation right against the hammock so that there is little room for the air to circulate in a cavity between the hammock and the insulation, and
2) to not squish the insulation against the hammock, taking away its R value.

It might. But I would think that would depend on how taut the netting was rigged. It seems that it would be possible to adjust that quite easily.

A custom made down underquilt is undoubtedly the best option. But for the more frugal and/or tailoring-challenged among us, a no-sew method of effectively (and easily) rigging an underquilt would be awesome.
