I'm getting ready for my Yosemite trip in a couple of weeks and would like to bring along my Trangia stove. I'll only need to boil about eight dinners' worth of water, (a cup and a half each time).

How badly will the stove underperform at, say, 10,000 feet or more? How much extra fuel should I bring along?

Cheers,

Cheers,

I've used my alcohol stove as high as 13k ft (in October no less) on the Continental Divide with no problem.

As for fuel, figure how much you normally use per meal and plan accordingly.

I find I use ~1oz per meal. If you bring 10oz, you'll be more than all set.

Just got back last night from my JMT hike and I used a Brasslite Stove and it worked well from Yosemite to Mt. Whitney. A friend of mine used Esbit Tabs and they worked as well.

I also concluded a 14 day Happy Isles to Mount Whitney hike. My Etowah alcohol stove performed flawlessly. If anything I had too much fuel.
