Workshops? Gatherings?

I was talking to some Thru-Hikers this year and they said that there are Thru-Hiker Events/Gatherings/Workshops (not sure which one :-?)

Does anyone know of these and if so - where and when they take place?

The best one by far is the annual Gathering, put on by the Appalachian Long-Distance Hiker's Association every October.
