im planning on doing a thru in 09, and as im an experirenced backpacker i have or already know most of the gear things i need. however a multiple month hike raises some interesting questions. will a pair of good lekis or black diamond trekking poles last an entire thru? also, do sea to summit type pack covers really work in the long term?

Your pack cover will hold up just fine, assuming its put on properly (lots of folks lose their packs to the wind if they're not put on right).

Haven't used Black Diamonds as I think Leki makes a better product, but your sticks will also hold up for a thru, tho you may have to replace a tip or a basket if you're unlucky.

Yes, Lekis will last.

I do not use pack covers. I use liner / dry bags & they work.
