I was just wondering, are there any places where you can skydive in walking/short driving distances from trail heads along the AT? Ive been deciding wether to get my skydiving license (AFF) and I just thought it would be awesome after weeks of hiking to get off the trail and go skydiving.

So are there any skydiving spots near/in the towns that are close to the AT?

There is a skydiving place at sussex airport in NJ. It's about 10 miles south on route 23 from the trail in high point state park.

VT Skydiving Adventures in Vergennes is about 40 miles from Rutland. Not close I know, but on occassion they do jumps out of the Rutland airport. Great people. I'm going for my second AFF jump on Sunday.

There is something wrong with a person that willingly jumps out of a perfectly good running plane….

Not necessarily. There's something wrong with a person that willingly jumps out of a perfectly good running plane without a chute!

The first commander of the 82nd Airborne (Gen Gavin) said that a man with the guts to leap out of an airplane (at night) could likely be depended upon when the going got hard.

Thanks a lot for the replies. Gives me something to perhaps add to my plans.

Most of my friends think that about me because i don't mind sleeping in a tent and going without a shower day day after day during summe,r winter, spring, or fall.
