yet he speaks volumes.............over 18000 posts none more then a sentence, thankyou. No I haven't read them all that would be a little odd.

I actually enjoy the down home wisdom, a Gabby Johnson sort of way "rahr rahr" (Blazing Saddles)

then just drop it and do nothing. move on

he can't tell. he's spent too much time in towns to know what's happenin on the trail

i sucked

i've known horty for 17 years. he's a piece of work. :) nancy (his wife) deserves and needs a medal

hardly a rescue. hardly noteworthy. hard to get lost on the AT. especially in CT. :rolleyes

i quit in gorham, n.h. 2 years in a row. no biggie. it's just a trail. nothing magical happens at katahdin

bear, schmear. bring a gun

yup. packs of wannabe thru-hikers cause more damage year after year in georgia than any scout group could possibly cause

hikin' the AT is hardly epic

the Army don't teach 'em LNT. their crap is all over the GA AT

hike with it. everybody does nowadays. except me. i don't own a cell phone

the route ain't broke so it don't need fixin'

why? hikers make a choice to be out walking. state troopers aren't a taxi service

great place if you like smoke and foul smelling rooms

nothing is very far from a road in the so-called 100 mile wilderness

When I first met this Hell-raiser he was riding his bike around Damascus. I had a great conversation with him at Dot's, along with Wonder and Gyspy. One of the reasons why Damascus was such a great town.

Met him in Dots also. Funny guy. I think he has his own (reserved) seat at Dots.

HHmmmm... he should be listed as one of the "must see" sites in Damascus :D!!!

i first met him at the hair cuttery...we were sitting next to each other at the rinse stations. i think he was getting some kind of perm or dye job, there was a strong odor coming from his sink- almost like concentrated alcohol, or maybe it was the chemicals from the manicure he was getting. those things stink pretty bad, but his fingernails did look very nice after all was said and done...

Few people know that I was born with a palsied finger on my right hand - it could never straighten. I'd been to many doctors and specialists, none could help me.

But one day I shook hands with Lone Wolf and it was immediately cured.

Another day I really needed $1000 and I asked Lone Wolf for the money. He didn't reply but that night there was a knock on my door. I went to open it and there was a bag sitting on my doorstep. It was on fire so I stomped it out. OK, so that was a mistake.

DWM, you made the milk come out my nose.

LW is really a blind, crippled jewish person from Africa and he's more beautiful than any of us could ever hope to be.

...and then there was the time that lw volunteered at the rainbow gathering. he wanted to head the 'welcome home' commitee, but he was already in charge of the massage tent, talk about a busy guy-running back and forth from the road access and the drum circle, then brewing and handing out herbal teas...he makes a mean chamomile peppermint smoothie too! and hearing him grumble 'welcome home!'- well, that was funny...

a friend told me he saw him sitting in a shelter, sipping a non-fat latte, listening to the Dead ... he'd just bear bagged his food. He was pissed cuz he lost a hiking pole.

...he was my step-sons assistant webelo leader...said he liked being a 'father figure' to at-risk youth. what he thought they were at-risk from he never explained, just mumbled something that sounded like, '...commies, hippies 'n liberals...'

Mother Teresa has this wonderful reputation we all know about, but let me tell you the real saints are the volunteers that worked for her. She would drive her workers to exhaustion and beyond; underneath that little habit lurked a demon with a fierce temper. I was on wound dressing duty and hadn't had anything to eat in days and was about to drop when Lone Wolf brought me a small bowl of rice, a cup of tea and let me rest on his pallet for a few minutes. That made all the difference.

The guy answers just about any serious question with a straight answer. He's one of the few who consistently does. Shows respect. For those of us who are here for answers, that's important. There are others, for sure, but he's one of the best. Straight-forward answers for people (me included) who often think things are way more complicated than they are...like he says, its just walking!

But his mood improved after he discovered signal, ordered new poles and razors on his fancy phone, and made a large donation to the Brady gang.
