Assumptions:
AT Thru-Hike starting March 1st-beautiful day in high 60's...hiking in shorts
and T-shirt only.
For comparisons, use these six categories:
1-Clothes (in pack)
2-Cooking/Hydration (include weight of water/fuel containers empty)
3-Packing (pack, pack cover, liners, stuff sacks, etc)
4-Shelter (tent/hammock/tarp, groundcloth, stakes)
5-Sleeping (bag, bag liner, pad, etc)
6-Essentials/luxury/other (light, toilet, hygene, repair, radio, first aid, etc)
DO NOT include weight of food, water or fuel...just containers for them. We
can all add food (2lbs day), fuel (1lb), water (2lbs per quart) to adjust our
total weight but this will vary among each person's preference.
For myself:
67.2 oz Clothes
23.2 oz Cooking/Hydration
30.5 oz Packing
33.0 oz Shelter
42.9 oz Sleeping
27.8 oz Essentials/luxury/other
224.6 oz Total or 14.04 lbs. base weight... hiking in shorts and t-shirt
