Looking for any thru hikers from 1975....
Tom R and Harry C hiked it...we're trying to catch up with the hikers from '75..... out there ??

I would be curious to know how many thru hikers there were in 1975. That was the year I thought of attempting it.

Not Many !! I did see a number somewhere seems like less than 20...you know there were so few people,no cell phones,no e-mail...and most had changing addresses as we were starting careers or whatever, so we din't stay in touch like the hikers do now...wish you could have made it in 75 !

No Trail names back then... although we would give out nicknames....
the trail magic was fantastic, because there were so few of us...esp when we got to town, the people were very nice !

One last question: Do you know of anyone that wrote a book about their AT hike from around that time period?

73; which brought the grand total to 353.

Note: these are 2,000 milers.

I'm not sure.... I'll ask Harry that hiked it in '75...he might know....
