The Navy is sending me down to Pensacola next month to get some training before I transfer to Norfolk. Are there any places nearby that I can do a 2-3 day hike? I figure finding a place to hike during Thanksgiving weekend will give me something to do.

The Florida Trail Connector up to Alabama ( http://www.floridatrail.org/options/floridapanhandle/ ) runs through from US90 at Harold to the State line, as well as many other trails that you could make loops with. There are a couple of shelters as well as campsites and campgrounds. The trails are pretty good and follow the Blackwater River a Juniper Creek. Blackwater River State Park ( http://www.floridastateparks.org/blackwaterriver/ ) has a campground, it's being renovated right now, but should be open again soon. There are also canoeing/kayaking opportuniites if you're into that.

Since you're in the military, you might want to hike the FT through Eglin Air Force Base. You can easily pull a long holiday weekend doing the section from Crestview to DeFuniak Springs. More info at http://www.floridatrail.org/Regions/Panhandle/WestGate.html

Use the Hikes tabs to get into details for Eglin North and Eglin East.
