You don't need 3 Litres of water on the trail. Im thru-hiking now and I've been fine with 1 up until now.(Im in Damascus). as for gear you'll see on the trail what you want and what you don't want.

you might consider replacing the heavy weight fleece. Fleece is bulky and you can get the same warmth out of something like the Marmot dri-Clime, a lined jacket with a nylon shell. Maybe a lighter sleeping pad. 3/4 RidgeRest = 8 oz. 2lb of sunscreen?? Most of the AT is in shaded woods. How about replacing the tent with a tarp or hammock. Check out tarp/tents tarptent (tarptent.com) or these: tarps (owareusa.com)

I agree 100%. If you subtract the 6 pounds-10 oz. for water, you have a base weight of 26 pounds and 4 oz...not bad, the real thing hurting you is the weight of the pack...I read your post on another site, that you really like this pack...then stay with it!

Are you hiking the approach trail?..if so add 4 days food (8 lb) max and start with a liter of water (35oz--plenty in early sections) and you leave with a total weight of around 36 1/2 pounds. Four days later at Neel's Gap, you can resupply, sign up to have the staff go through your pack for evaluation, and even try on the packs they sell there, if you are still feeling too heavy.

As L-A stated, this will give yourself an opportunity to find out what YOU want or do not want and relieve those items, AFTER trying them or NOT having used them.

Two things that stood out were the 2lbs of sunscreen and the 2lbs of fuel.
