I'm going to buy some trail runners or low-cut hiking shoes today. Any advice on lightweight, waterproof/non-waterproof, well ventilated, etc. kinds of footwear that will get me part of the way through my thruhike. I know everybody's feet are different, but any recommendations will help. Thanks.

I hope this helps with your shoe selection as far as "waterproofing" goes... http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=42276

i'll swear by my merrell siren sports. won't hike in anything else. would probably go with the gore-tex on a thru.
