This is a perfect example of over zealous trail maintainers, or AT fan, actually it is probably the furthest east white blaze on the continent. Why its there? Beats me. It is at the foot of the Montauk Light House (NY). Great weekend of striper fishing, although the 10-14' seas weren't pleasant.

Maybe the paint mark has nothing whatever to do with the trail.

I was recently on an orienteering trip in Freeport, Maine and I was on a trail marked with White Blazes. Nothing what so ever to do with the trail. You can paint a trail what ever color you like.

My trail is going to be blazed with pictures commemorating sitcoms from the 80's and 90's. A true...trail of tears:rolleyes:
Just the other day, I was on this trail. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_70) Had white blazes all up and down it...

Montauk. One of my very favorite places in the whole wide world. The best time to be there is late October.
