Many places on the AT appeal to me, but the place I may like best of all is Baxter State Park. Since I can't visit as often as I desire, one of the next best things is watching for TJ aka Teej's posts to WhiteBlaze's gallery.
He has posted many which are of the finest kind. It's hard to pick a favorite or even a handful. His photo entitled Katahdin, early October (http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=1100&catid=member&orderby=rating&direction=DESC&imageuser=314&cutoffdate=-1) captures in a single image the essence of a NOBO AT through hike. It depicts Katahdin a long day's hike from the south when it might be the best time of all to be there under optimal conditions.
I would add many of his photos make great Windows desktop backgrounds. They appear often on my monitor.
My best upload to WhiteBlaze's gallery is entitled Blue Mountain azalea (http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=20037&catid=member&orderby=rating&direction=DESC&imageuser=6796&cutoffdate=-1). I hope those who have not seen before it will enjoy it. It depicts a native azalea as some of it's blossoms are beginning to fall on NPS corridor in Pennsylvania near my home. I also uploaded a larger image for those who may wish to use it as a Windows desktop background.
If only I could have captured a better image including the spicebush swallowtails which were all over them that day. I must leave that to your imagination and hope you will see them as I did.

but i bet that if THE Lone Wolf took and shared some pics, his would be outstanding.
but then again, most everyones pictures on WB gets me erect for some backpacking. i mean that in the least offensive way possible.

Water isn't playing anything. It's who he is.
He most likely figures we're dingbats for working ourselves into the grave to live in houses that are much bigger than anything we need. And he may just be right.

Many a bearded mountain man took to tipi living when possible. And who's to say there isn't some bloodline in there. I look like a redbearded old Celtic mutt myself, but there's also some Creek and Cherokee about 4 generations back.

They are not my favs by a long shot, but, I get a kick out of all the shelter privy photos. I'm proud to say I have no privy photos in my WB gallery. The photos I like the best and ones I try to get pics of are the AT route taken from the AT itself or surrounding peaks. One of the best views of the AT route is from Water Rock Knob on the Parkway in NC. You can see the AT route through the Nantahalas and the Smokies and beyond on a good day.

This past weekend, my shuttler from Erwin back to the Tri-Cities Regional Airport took me to a hilltop just outside of the airport where you could see the section I had hiked the previous 7 days from Damascus to Erwin. He pointed out Shady Valley, Holston Mountain, Roan, Unaka and down into Erwin. Really cool, especially as the setting sun cast a reddish tinge to the entire ridgeline on a clear evening. Wish I had had my digicam.

I don't know who would not take a picture of a privy...seems some how illogical to even conceive...wow I got the i before e except after c rule right on the first try :D

I downloaded that a couple months ago because the shot I got of that flower never came out on my film...very disappointed because they were all over the Berkshires in June. Mostly of that color, but a few other color varieties as well.

I forgot about Mountain Squid's pic of Laurel FallsThanks, I hadn't seen this one. I just hiked through a few weeks ago and the water flow was still impressive given the drought.
BTW, I think the proper name is Laurel Fork Falls. These falls are quite accessible to the day hiker, especially if they can get to the Dennis Cove Road trailhead and hike south for 1.2 miles, a quarter mile of which is very steep.
I was looking at some of Old Fhart's Trail Legend photos the other day, and they are great: Pirate, LW, PawPaw, Matthewski. NOW I can't find them all!! Great shots, all!

My girlfriend Little Mitten saw this thread and has this to say:
"I got really angry when I read about what was said about TW. Just because you don't have black hair and so forth doesn't have anything to do with how much Indian you have in you.
The blood quantum percentage is a government policy to lower tribal roles thereby giving less land alottments to any Indians not having a higher percentage of Indian blood. In the old days the Cherokees never used blood quantum to figure tribal membership, they either accepted you into the tribe as a Cherokee or didn't.
It disgusts me that someone can judge someone just by a picture. If more of us lived in a tipi the world might be a better place. Alot of people have watched too many old westerns and they think all Indians should have dark skin and dark hair, but there's lots of us that don't. There's not that many full bloods left.
Humble Bear, an Indian friend of mine who lives in Virginia, carries a playing card, the ace of hearts, and he shows it to anyone asking about his tribal affiliation. He says, "We all have one red heart."
My sewing awl is pointed and my beaded buckskin bag is full of tobacco. It's time to gather wood and live close to the land." Little Mitten.

BTW, here's my two favorite fotogs:
The first shows Little Mitten sitting on a rock in the middle of Bald River in TN. The next shows the same exact place in flood stage(Little Mitten got out in time!). The second shot is downriver from where I was camped along the Brookshire trail in the Upper Bald River wilderness area. I actually had to cross this thing right before the pic was taken though I was higher up. Still it was a near disaster, etc.

Little Mitten speaks the truth. There's a lot of DNA research going on to try and follow the human origin. What's been found is that some white people, say in America, can have more DNA commonality with black Africans in Africa than with other white people in Europe.
Also, DNA is being used in genealogy research and people are finding surprising results, such as, people in Europe learning that they have Asian blood and the list goes on with very surprising results...
People are people and our racial differences are very superficial and many fall victim to nature’s trickery.

Lots of great photos and photographers on WB but IMO and apparently that of many others, Old Fhart is the best. For those who don't know, he won several prizes at this year's Gathering photo contest.

Well I am a Heinz 57.......
Didn't know about TOF's awards---he certainly earned them.
I can state unequivocally that I have NO Indian ancestors. My crotchety sister-in-law drew up our family tree when she worked for the DAR (whoopty-doo). Most everyone in these parts claims to be 1/4 Monacan, the indigenous people.

Wish I could live like you to Tipi, keep it up. One of my best friends is about 1/2 Sioux and the rest Irish (and English but he won't admit it I don't think). But the Sioux is what he's most "Proud" of. Meaning that's the culture he wants to follow and emulate himself afterward.
Culture is like religion folks. There is lots of them, they are all wrong, they are all insane and inane to someone else, and we should not tell people how to choose their own.
Don't be racist folks. Hate everyone equally like a good little hole.:D

I didn't say anything racist. I wasn't even hateful. If a kid wore a hockey suit to school and they didn't have a hockey team, folks might find it strange. I would have thought it just as funny if he dressed up like an 1860 cowboy and walked around with a rope to lasso cows in the middle of the woods. If you can grow a full beard you might wanna check the tomahawk at the door, That's all I'm sayin.
