hey all,
i'm a 6'2", 225 lb dude and was wondering what hammocks you recomend for people my size. removable bug net and tarp are a must.

also how do yall sleep in these? laying straight in a hammock from end to end kills my back. what do yall know about 'brazilian style?' it's where u sleep kind of side ways or catty-cornered...

thanks :banana

I like Hennessey and there are folks out there that will modify the bug net and Hennessey himself might do it for you. I have two of their hammocks and the company has treated me right on the one warranty return that I had and did put some custom ropes in my other one for no charge. Jacks are better makes a flat laying hammock that you might look into as well.

Go with a Hennessy Expedition A-Sym and get it modified with a zipper by some of the folks who hang out here or on HammockForums. After all, Hennessy is the gateway hang of the hammock subculture. And there's a reason for it. They are great for what they do.

I would stay away from the JRB bridge hammock at your height/weight. Iyt is my favorite hammock but I am much smaller. They are said to be comming out with a bigger model in the future. The modified Hennessy is a good idea. Upgrade to a bigger tarp over the puny Hennessy tarp. A JRB cat tarp, Speer winter tarp (anytime tarp actually) or a MacCat deluxe are great options for tarps. Also consider a Speer tarp. http://www.speerhammocks.com/Products/Hammock.htm
I'd order only the hammock and upgrade to a Speer winter tarp. Confused yet???
Well you should be. It comes with the territory initially. Get past the learning curve and you'll be a happy camper.

I highly advise going here for some great hammock camping 101.

I'm 2Questions and here is what we offer by way of modifying Hennessy's. We have three mod options, here's the most popular. If interested, send me a PM.

I'm about your height and a little (not much) lighter and I'm comfortable in my Hennessy Explorer Ultralight. I sleep at an angle.

has anybody used a clark na jungle hammock? is it worth the costSend a PM to Hikerhead, who I believe uses this model. I haven't pursued the Clark models as I feel that they are too heavy.

I second the suggestion to check out hammockforums.net. As far as a recommendation, I can only speak based on my experience. First, I have never used a hennesy but my friends do, and they like it. I have always used a top loader: travel, byer and claytor. As per your parameters, the claytor might fit your bill. While the bugnet is not removeable, you can "flip the hammock over" and thus use it without. The claytor is longer than my other hammocks, I do not know if this is because claytor hammocks are longer in general or the other ones were shorter. Other benefits of the clytor is the double bottom which allows for a pad to be used with very little problems. the downside is is it a little heavier (mine is 31oz). I keep trying my other hammocks in different conditions but always find myself going back to the claytor. Oh, one last comment, in my other hammocks I need to lie on the diagonal for comfort, but in the claytor, laying striaght is more comfortable, odd. My advice would be to try to find sompe people who have hammocks and try them out. What is best for me, might not work for you. As much as packs require personal fit for comfort, I think hammocks are even more so. Ok that's my 50cents.
