Don't know what everyone else uses but NWS has upgraded its site recently and now has a google earth map which you can pan around on for pinpoint detailed info on the area you are heading into. You can click anywhere on the map.
I don't put too much faith in the 7 days ahead forecast but its usually good for a few days ahead.
I'm heading out tomorrow for a couple days in the high peaks region here and just saw on this NWS forecast (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=45.15202175726355&lon=-70.2960205078125&site=gyx&smap=1&marine=0&unit=0&lg=en) for the area i'm heading to expect blustery conditions with overnight lows to 16 deg. up there at 3600'.. Its winter hiking time!:)
I think that new 5 deg. bag that arrived yesterday is gonna come in handy.
What weather forecast site do you use?
