Don't know what everyone else uses but NWS has upgraded its site recently and now has a google earth map which you can pan around on for pinpoint detailed info on the area you are heading into. You can click anywhere on the map.
I don't put too much faith in the 7 days ahead forecast but its usually good for a few days ahead.
I'm heading out tomorrow for a couple days in the high peaks region here and just saw on this NWS forecast (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=45.15202175726355&lon=-70.2960205078125&site=gyx&smap=1&marine=0&unit=0&lg=en) for the area i'm heading to expect blustery conditions with overnight lows to 16 deg. up there at 3600'.. Its winter hiking time!:)
I think that new 5 deg. bag that arrived yesterday is gonna come in handy.
What weather forecast site do you use?

Agreed. I also like http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=kingfield,%20me&wuSelect=WEATHER

Try some of those links under the "radar" picture. Don't know if you have any wundermap spots near you.

The "hourly" page under each day is cool. Lot of info, print that with some other thing printed on the back.

Looking forward to an objective review on that fancy sack!

My 1st go to is the National Weather Service as it consistantly the most accurate for the Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennesse area I hike in. I always go to Weather Underground and The Weather Channel so I have a thorough prediction of the weather. My least favorite is The Weather Channel as their accuracy seems to be a little off locally. I think they're better for Macro than Micro weather predictions.

I agree - the Google Map feature is pretty neat.

Enjoy the Bigelow's Woodsy. When you click on the link, it shows the area you were looking at.

Thanks for the link . . . nice!

I also use AccuWeather's 15 day forecast:

http://www.accuweather.com/us/tn/erwin/37650/city-weather-forecast.asp?partner=accuweather&u=1&traveler=1

and the Weather Channel's 10-day forecast:

You are right about not putting too much faith in the forecast beyond 5 days out though. Beyond 5 days, the forecast is apt to change as the hiking period draws closer.
