Hey guys!

A buddy and I decided to get into hiking together, and split some of the costs where possible. However, come to find out, sometimes people are reluctant to let someone else use their stuff if they aren't coming....think he's jealous he wasn't invited!! haha.

Anyways, what he bought was the water purifier (bought the Hyperflow...but I honestly don't like it) and the titanium cook set.

I am going on a hike next weekend, and I need a water purifier and titanium cook set!!!

I don't wanna drop a butt load of money on this stuff though. Anyone selling or got a cheap website/specials?

Thanks everyone!

You could pick up some iodine and a grease pot at K-Mart for $10-12 to tide you over.

Chemical water treatment is cheap. Aquamira or such.

As a Ti user I will not try to put you off buying that, but keep in mind that some (like me) don't use it because it is lighter but because it is stronger ( it can bounce on hard ground without denting)
Having said that it is easier to cook with aluminium ( I only boil water)
So here it goes
http://www.brasslite.com/ (http://www.brasslite.com/) Ti pots on sale now.. (free internal shipping )
I really would like that 750ml pot for an experiment but shipping and the low AU dollar are a bit of a problem right now.
If you don't expect really muddy water I would also recommend Aqua Mira or the like. (filter first through a cotton hankie or bandanna if you must)
If you do expect lots of particles, then you don't want the Hyperflow....

You don't have to spend a ton of cash in order to acquire gear to go backpacking. Leave the "keeping up with the Joneses at home". Read this article from Sgt. Rock for some ideas on low-cost gear options.

Here's (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/9358,99592_Bota-Outback-Water-Bottle-Purification-System-.html) a cheap water filter for crypto & giardia. Some that have them have complained that it's too hard to squeeze. Mine isn't. I use it to fill gatoraide bottles then drink from those.

Check the home made gear forum for lots of pot ideas.

I recently grabbed a used jetboil for $50 off ebay. it will boil water in about 90 seconds, is light, and the fuel is cheap. plus, it makes coffee or watever and even cooking a lot easier on those cold days.

Yep, look around, lots of good deals. SKids has it right. Don't need expensive stuff to have fun.

Do you really need a whole cookset? I think most people here get by with only one pot. You could probably find a single ti pot for ~$20
