It is very very common and easy to find. Not in small quantities though usually.

It is very very common and easy to find. Not in small quantities though usually.

An example at my local Brooklyn, NY hardware store:

1 pint is $4
1 quart is $6
1 gallon is $10

All the same brand. Of course, I bought the gallon and transfer to smaller bottles.

SInce it used as a thinner, building, construction and hardware supply stores all carry it.
Also note, that in most countries(not the US), you can buy 97% ethyl alcohol for about the same price. It is used for fuel in fondue and catering devices.

In colder areas you can almost always find small quanities of Methyl alcohol at gas stations and car part stores, used as a gas line antifreeze.

These all work for almost all alcohol stoves.
Non-jet style stoves will usually work, but poorly, with Isopropyl(everywhere) or weaker ethyl alcohol(liquor store), For emergencies.
