I have lived here in Denver for 4 months now and have YET to make it to the Mtns for more than day hiking! BOO! So I am hoping to do the CT in sections come Spring/Summer. Anyone interested in making plans together for such a trek? I think twoSpeed will be coming out for a week or 2 of hiking in Spring. Basically I need motivation to start planning. lol :p I get caught up with work and now school and think "Ill do it later".

I'm interested in doing some winter hiking/climbing. Would really like to have a partner to hike with. I work retail so my days off are Monday and Tuesday through the holidays. Check my profile ~ I climbed Greenhorn Mountain (12,346ft) on 11/11/2008. I don't mind hiking by myself during Spring, Summer, and Fall but as the snow gets deeper I tend to want to hike with someone ~ just a lot safer that way.

I've rescheduled my CT thru to '09 due to a foot problem and Lyme's this year. I won't be starting until mid July from Denver, though.

Two speed is suppose to come out for some hiking in March/April. I've been hiking around 8,00ft, but am not equipped to deal with much more elevation in this weather.

Even in March/April, you'll probably need snowshoes (or skis) for the higher elevation mountains.

Here's a photo from late April on Deer Mtn (http://www.protrails.com/trail.php?trailID=96) back in 2004:

It is just a hair over 10000' ft

(One person said Ms. Frosty has Mrs. Butterworth proportions! :) )

Pretty typical for that time of the year. BTW, Deer Mtn makes a wonderful "view to effort ratio" (http://www.pmags.com/joomla/index.php/Backpacking-and-Hiking-documents/Day-Hikes-in-Colorado.html#deer-mountain)snowshoe, esp in the early Spring/late winter when the weather is nice but there is still too much snow to hike.

Luckily, snowshoes are pretty cheap to rent and you honestly do not need any super special gear to snowshoe. (http://www.pmags.com/joomla/index.php/Outdoor-Writings/intro-to-snowshoeing.html)(You have rain pants? There's a shell! Have a fleece? Polypro? You are good to go! )

And if you come to the Rockies Ruck (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showpost.php?p=696546&postcount=1) in early March...you can snowshoe with some hiker trash. You are in Denver now. You should meet us. ;)
