This mountain has eluded me for the second time 11/24/2008. Due to a turn of events I got a late start in the morning (was 20 minutes from home and realized I left my wallet at home among other events).:datz With the late start and the snow I found myself on the ESE ridge at 13,326-feet in the afternoon (a little over 900 vertical feet from the top). By my calculations I would be returning after 5:00pm to the trailhead if I continued. I didn't want to be hiking in the woods after dark. I got back to the trailhead at 4:48pm. I made the right choice.

The mountain will be there for another day. Getting to the top is optional, getting down back down is mandatory. Pictures are posted.

Thank you for posting these amazing pix. I think you made the right choice to turn around, too - seems like getting back down that mountain in the dark would have been more than a bit dangerous.

Dang it man you're good. I had to go back and look to see if that sign was in the actual picture. I almost replied to it as if it was there. Actual picture:

The photoshopping got me, too, and I've been to that TH. Very good! The Breckenridge ski area is just north of there, and they've been expanding so much I though maybe there actually was a ski lift nearby that backcountry skiers used. Like on the Commando Run into Vail, you can get a lift up the Back Bowls.

Better luck next time, Tom. It's fun up there. Stay out of the south couloirs until late Spring, but then it's a great glissade!
