~100 mi. from Richmond at Reeds Gap you could take the AT and Mau-Har trail for a trip of 13.5 mi.

I will second the Grayson Highlands, the wind will be difficult and it will be cold but man what a view.

It just so happens that a few of us from Hammock forums will be at the Grayson Highlands Jan 23 - 25. We are having a get together at the Wise Shelter area. That is a great area to hike, lots of views, nice trails & a number of loop options if you want long or short miles.
I am planning to hike Apple Orchard mountain this winter. I forget the trails but it can be accessed from the east with 2 trails and a FS road. Get the Trails Illustrated map. I think the AT shelter up there is the Timber Ridge shelter.
Or the Priest from the Tye river.
