What would you buy ?

Its that time of year, i need a new bag ... its the utmost needed upgrade in my gear ... I'm thinking a very ultralight type with a 40 rating as i'm ALWAYS too hot in my 30 bag and if the need comes, i can get a +15 fleece insert ... with that said your option has to be a long ... 6'6 ...

For an example, i've been looking over -

1 lb bag, 850+ down ... and in the long version with full zip ...

personally i wouldn't waste my money on a down ultralight at +40. plenty of cheap synthetics under 2lbs (i realize that a lb is a good bit of weight). i'd sell your current low temp bag, buy a newer cheap +40 and roll that $250 towards the marmot helium for your 2010 thru

The only think I would pay much over $100 for would be a down bag, but it would be for winter.

I suppose i could go "green" and look at ---

http://www.backcountry.com/store/MAR1141/Marmot-Eco-Pro-40-Sleeping-Bag-40-Degree-Synthetic.html

as an alternative to down ... comes in at 2lbs for the long ... synthetic wasn't out as an option ... i was thinking down was more cloud and luxary soft ... so i wanted to go with down ... but i have upto $250 or so, didn't mean i needed to spend it all on the bag. I have money set aside for my new tent/clothes etc ... this is just for a good sleeping bag for 3 season ... april thro nov or so when its in the 30-40 range at night ... and i sleep hot, so i decided on a 40 degree bag ...

Watch the various forums for used gear. I bought a Marmot Atom (used 5 nights and laundered by Rainy Pass) tonight for $100. I just couldn't stand it. My former warm weather bag as a 2# LaFuma (supposedly 30 degree) I got from REI for $35.

$250 for 40*? I'd buy a MB#5 or a Jacks R Better Hudson River quilt

I would look at the Montbell thermal quilt, lighter then a bag, perfect for warm weather.

Montbell Super Stretch Down Hugger, the #4 or #5 model.

I would look at either the Western Mountaineering Highlite, or the Western Mountaineering Summerlite. Personally I lust after both of those bags.

Yesterday at dicks, i picked up a 9oz 40 degree aspen ... last one, was 90 bucks ... also while at cabelas i grabed a pair of under armour guild zip offs for 22 bucks .... woot, gotta love the bargin cave ... 38/34 .. never anything in my size ... anyway, since i got this bag, my plans have changed .... now i'm looking at the 15 pinnacle ... not sure i wanna go all out on the helium, but its i guess only 60 bucks more or so if i remember right

Gotta look up the differences again .... but if there's any other comments on the new budget of $300-$350 ... 15 degree or so, i sleep HOT ... i want to sleep on a pillow ... or atleast soften up the prolite4. =P
