Hi. I went from Hot Springs down to Max Patch weekend before last.....

It was COLD!! Temps went down to 12 degrees one night.

There was about 3-6 inches of snow on the mountain, but that is not accurate of how the weather will be this weekend.

I will warn of one thing though...there is little if any water from Hot Springs until about 1/2 mile past Walnut Mountain shelter.

Your best bet (as long as it isn't frozen) will be to fill up A LOT of water at the Blue Blaze by Deer Park Mtn shelter (3.0 miles from Hot Springs).

I can send you some pics of what we experienced if you'd like.

Also, there is a blow over about .5 miles BEFORE Walnut Mtn shelter....I would advise crawling under (remove pack first)....especially if there is snow as the climb around the tree is quite steep and slippery, especially since it is about 3/4 the way up a pretty steep climb.

Also...there was NO snow on Max Patch...first place where we enjoyed this "luxury" the whole trip. But, the views and fair weather atop Max Patch made the whole of the trip worthwhile.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
